Has anyone tried to make or played around with the idea of making a lightweight removable canopy for their open-top tank? I love the open top but, like most, have had to put on a lid to keep fish from jumping which cuts into the aesthetics a bit. The other issue is just the blinding glare from the LEDs if sitting down looking up at the tank (or if you are short it'll hit you as well). So, what I'd like to do is create a lightweight 3 sided canopy that sits on top of the lid frame and along the fronts and side of the tank (the back is up against a wall) in order to block or diffuse this light but still allow for easy access to the tank itself. It is a 4' tank so it should be too unwieldy.
I'm basically looking around for framing kits that would meet these requirements but not really coming up with many options. One possibility though is 8020 aluminum (anodized to whatever color) pieces with (white or black) acrylic panels fitted to their ready tube framing. Looks like ordering all the pieces would be around $180 so not too bad but just wanted to throw this out to r2r in case someone already had something like this or had some tips/ideas. If not I will probably give this a shot and keep interested people updated on how it goes.
