I’m breaking down my reef tank but want to keep the live rock live can I take it out the tank and put in fresh salt water with a heater and pump or does it have to be the tank water?

yes, you can put them in a bucket with new saltwater and a heater and powerhead.

Depending how long you will keep them in a bucket, I would feed a small pinch of flake food once a week.

Agree with above, heater is helpful but if the water stays at room temp around 68f it will still work.
