Can anyone ID this white growth on my liverock? It doesn’t appear to be the traditional looking sponge. It looks like a bacterial thick film? It flows in the current and is soft. Should I remove?

Here are some better pics I just took. There is a definite sponge and then is that a sponge next to it as well outlining the rock in a white film?

Agree on sponge. Its a poriferan type known as clatharina and can be invasive. best removal is with a dental pick or small crochet needle.

Oh wait, are you looking at the larger spider webbed looking one? The one in question is the one outlining the side of the rock. Here in this pic. It I will remove the other sponge. Thank you

Hard to tell could be sponge could be some sort of bacteria maybe even some sort of algae. It looks to be in a spot that's probably hard to get a better pic of but maybe if you could?

When I tried to get a pic front on you could tell. It’s translucent. Only from the side you can see. Yeah it’s weird haha
