15 head colony of Joe's Solar Flare. Bleached... 6 head Angel Eyes Favia - bleached. WWC fireball chalice bleached and receding. All SPS bleached. Frag was worth $100 its doubled in size. I"ll just shut up... sorry. Venting frustrations. Elos ATO pump - dead. QT HOB pump dead.

makes me sick... its not the money. its the neglect and lack of responsibility, but don't call a pro to fix it or you will get evicted. thats breach of contract with the lease. *rolls eyes* they can't fix it in a timely manner but i can't have the option to call a real AC man. I had trouble with it all last summer... this time it cost money. I was lucky last summer. I should not be at a loss because they failed to fix it. Its all good. I know what the problem is. Why else would they have to charge it all the time? EPA measures it on an anual scale. If it leaks this much in a year you have this much time to fix it or deal with fines. Oops did I call the EPA? Oh ok, pay the fines with your insurance. Have a nice day.

People will do whatever they can and take the short road on everything. If they can do it cheaper and cut corners they will. It sucks

Usually when it starts to get cold/hot. All HVAC contractors are swamped. This is the time when most people turn their units on. I am a general contractor, and last December when our boiler went south, it took me 7 days to get my HVAC guy out here. Keep in mind, I give this particular crew more than 50k in work a year. Its just the way the cookie crumbles.

I personally wouldn't have a saltwater tank in a place I rented.

This was last month... wasn't even hot yet. they insisted on coming over to check it in march. ok, then why did it break first time it got hot? why did i lose $4800 worth of coral? Yes they are small... yes they are expensive and yes I'm sorry I trusted you with my AC and have no choice but not to call a pro that can actually fix it. Nevermind that I've talked to a pro with 17yrs experience that flat out said "They are messing with you".

Can it handle keeping my tank cool in 110F? When I say 90F its as high as thermostat registers. It stayed there for 48hrs straight. I even had to come home in middle of business day and ask my boss for time off to go home and slap someone cuz when I called to check status "We'll have it fixed by this afternoon" Sorry... that answer won't work. They hung up on me. It had already been out 24hrs and I was promised first thing in the morning and I hear diff story. These are my babies. These are my friends. These are who I trust. I try my best to protect my colonies... my fish. Life isn't the same without them. I can't even smile when I look at my tank. All that work and time and money... I grew everything from frags. And they just kill it and shrug "I don't care". I do. Those are my pets. You don't see me killing your dog or cat do you and saying "Oh well".

First, I'm sorry for your loss. I'd be livid, too. There are portable A/C units that you can buy and put right in the room with you. They have a hose that you run outside. Don't feel guilty, I'd call and report it also. Moving, especially with saltwater tanks, really isn't fun. HVAC techs have to capture the gas - what about all the gas that's leaking out every year. I'm a general contractor also and every spring I have a guy come out (when he's not swamped) and check my unit before there is a problem.

Those were kids to me... how would they feel I just recklessly killed their child? We all know where I'd be if I do something stupid like that. Not even a "I'm sorry for your loss". Nothing just "You'll have to take it up with your renter's insurance" same as a car... you file a claim they wanna go up on it. I'm not about that... this was purely neglect on their part. Why else would they come charge it once a month all summer. Sure thats good for the environment. Lets just leak all the stuff into the air and see if we can still live. I love my animals... they are as much as part of me as I am.

Anyway as far as a chiller goes, I use the 1 HP commercial sunlight supply eco plus.
That's probably to much chiller for your tank they do make a 1/2hp model. Basically these chillers will cool tank water 30 degress below Ambient temp.
But any chiller you put in your tank room/ room with tank is going to heat the room up. Also, the added pump is going to hear the tank. See if you can plumb it in with your returned. Through use of a manifold

Mines plumbed to my tank, but lives outside.

Sorry for your losses, but you are in a tough situation as you have no control over the place as you rent... I do too but it is a different situation...

I don't know if you have any legal standing in the matter but it may warrant a phone call as if they are constantly charging it you may have a case for negligence...

I have run into the same situation but mine lasted 5 days with ambient temps as high as 115 and 85% humidity or higher. Evaporative cooling failed and I needed a backup. Frozen milk jugs were my tanks savior for the first couple days, but that got old fast. I went out and bought a portable AC unit that vents out the window. It also dehumidified the air which started to allow evap cooling to start up again. It was well worth the $250 investment to protect my much larger tank investment...
