Long double float switch

Does anyone have experience with the reliability of these sort of floats? I'm looking for high/low level switches for my ATO reservoir.

was using one in my old setup. enclosed in pvc pipe with holes drilled in it.
in new set up I am only using the upper switch for my ATO level

Was the pvc serving as a snail guard? I'm thinking just using it as is, since it will be in RO water
