They are the better choice in hawks. Less aggressive than flames and falco’s. Can and do sometimes go after shrimp, so be aware. If fed good quality frozen meaty foods, should do well. They do like to jump, so a lid, screen top is a must. Nice fish!

What else is in the tank?

Kole tank
1 clown
1 xl bangi
1 sixline
Snowflake eel

Eel may think it’s a snack, depending on the size of the eel. Be aware!

Sixline may go after it. Sixlines, once established can become holy terrors to new additions and later to everyone in the tank, except the Kole and eel.

Chalk bass are my next fish purchase for my system. I’ve had them years ago and they did very well. Not bad looking fish too. Very underrated. Try the mirror trick on the hawk, might work, might not. Nothing to loose.

Mine sits on one "special" branch rock and watches everyone else, including me and my dog! Very interesting behaviors.

I got mine 4 months ago at 2" in size, nearly half of that was his snout! :D His name is Snooter and he has several fans through my Instagram account.

So far he has been a model citizen and exhibits no aggressive behaviors. The only thing that he's ever done to concern me was squeezing through the slits in the overflows, but now that he has a little more girth, I don't think he can fit any more.

He loves flakes and frozen foods, especially the smaller shrimp and squid chunks in LRS Nano Reef Frenzy. He is not a big fan of pellets though and will be way more selective with choosing which pieces to eat. I will say that they probably wouldn't go well with a mandarin because mine actively looks for pods and eats them all day, sometimes going into tight places after them.

By far one of the most inquisitive fish I have ever owned and will always be front and center checking things out when I'm near the tank. It even likes to swim in and around my hand when I moving coral frags around or something. I always leave a frag rack in the tank, even if there isn't any frags on it, just for him to sit on :)
