so as of recent my sps are not uptaking KH or CA. I’ve had to shut my doser off because the numbers are climbing to levels I’m not comfortable with. Coupled with this I am see lighter (paler) colors and would speculate it is cause and effect.

So my question is, what would cause the uptake to stop. What should I look at as limiting factors

More info as needed but
Alk 9.2
Ca 420
Mg 1425
Po4 reads zero but I have lots algae
No3 5-10

What's your pH? What kind of lighting? Any changes? How old is the tank?

What was the KH prior to the rise?

Turning dosers off is a good thing, double check Alk test kit for expiration?

You dose so have you checked salinity levels to make sure it hasn't creeped up too high?

What lighting are you using, and what PAR levels do you have in the tank?

Pale colors can come from using organic carbon and/or GFO and also lights with suspect spectrum. Do you use organic carbon or GFO? Also, everybody above is right... which lights do you have and how do you run them.

Increasing building blocks is a common theme nowadays, but if algae is thriving, then there are enough building blocks for the coral.

Ok guys to answer a few questions. I run An aquatic life t5 hybrid fixture with 3 G4 radion xr30’s. They are set on the SPS. Ab+ program at 38% max intensity on for 9 hours 1.5 ramp up and down with 6 hours peak intensity. The par is anywhere from 300-175

The PH in my tank floats from 7.95-8.2 by the end of the day

Every other month I run a cup of ROX carbon in a bag in my overflow sock

Alk was steady at 8 for 2 months then uptake stopped when I noticed corals were suspect

I do not run GFO but run a small clump off CHAETO on reverser light cycle using a Kessil h80

My salinity sets st 1.025

How old is the tank? If it is less than a year, then this could all just be part of the early instability that seems to take no form of rhyme or reason.

I do not see anything in your last post that is concerning.

I tested last night my po4 using a red Sea kit and a Hanna ULR and both were very close the Hanna was 11 which I think equates to .034 and the Red Sea looked to be .02 my thoughts are that it’s higher because of the amount of green algae on glass each day but not positive

Tested alk and Hanna checker came in at 8.6 and Salifert was 8.7 so very close

My tank is sitting at 6 months old.

What would stop uptake of alk/ca?
