I’m currently running a 10 gallon nano reef and I’m starting to think about upgrading. I’d like some advice from people who have made the jump from a nano.
Current setup:
• 10 gallon tank (about 12.5” deep)
• Nava Reef 65 LED mounted about 10.5” above the water (currently running around 50% intensity)
• Sicce Voyager Nano 1000 wavemaker pointed slightly upward for surface agitation
• HOB filter for filtration (AC30)
• Live rock arch aquascape with sand
Touchless 50W heater. I don’t know the brand but I touch my phone to the glass near the heater and it reads the temp and can adjust it.
Livestock:
• Fire shrimp (recently molted a few times but seems healthy)
• Mix of beginner corals including star spike LPS and a small SPS branch frag, along with a yellow fever.
Parameters I’m monitoring:
• Salinity: 1.026 (refractometer calibrated)
• Just started testing KH / alkalinity with a titration kit. Nitrates are low, dosing soon.
The tank has been stable overall, but I’m starting to feel limited by the 10 gallon size, especially with coral growth and parameter stability.
A few questions:
1. What tank size would you recommend upgrading to from a 10g? (I’m thinking something like 20–50 gallons)
2. Would my Nava Reef 65 still be usable on a slightly larger tank?
3. Any equipment upgrades you’d prioritize when making the jump?
What tank to get? I don’t like the look of my HOB filter.
4. Prices
Appreciate any advice!
