Here’s why it’s better than eggcrate. Looks aside for right now

This is 12 permanent attachment points for corals. Permanent. That’s the difference.

Eggcrate holds frags. On plugs. Temporarily. Nobody wants sps or gonipora or whatever encrusting over the plug onto eggcrate. It’s an irregular weird surface and not natural looking.

With the aquarocks, each frag plug spot is like a 2” shallow curved dish, it’s designed to hold the plug and have the coral encrust over it, and onto the shelf, with space to make a nice base, and blend into the shelf, which blends into the tank, looking like branch or live rock

the piece magnets to my rear wall, and extends into the tank keeping corals away from my glass allowing them room to grow. I have 12 mount points added and the corals are near center of the tank, in good flow, instead of stuck by the glass where they would have 1-2” tops for expanding branches

These sps frags have a permanent spot now, that they didn’t before.

@VintageReefer , how thick is your glass? I like the look of that frag rack but wondering if it would stay in place on my tank. I think my glass is about 5/8”.

The glass panel for the aqua rocks branch is 5/16.

5/8 sounds big. You got like a 180+ g tank?

I like the aquarocks peninsula rack. It’s big. But it is designed to look like a big floating piece of rockwork and it accomplishes the job. I would contact them and ask if the magnets support 5/8 if that’s a true thickness. They are on the forum and also can be emailed.

Will also say, out of desire and need, I designed a magnetic single frag rack for torches and acropora and asked a 3d printing reefer buddy to make them for me. As both a long time reefer and engineer I covered all the bases - everything I could want in a single rack, and I bought 6 and have been using them. I originally designed a single rack that can hold multiple plugs, but decided individual is better and allows more customization / placement, and is more likely to be hidden as things grow in. I have 6…These are awesome

- extension - many singles are an inch from the glass and don’t give a lot of growth space. I put the plug hole 2.5” away from the glass giving plenty of room for a torch or acro to branch and grow

- lighting - angled downwards approx 30 degrees so the frag has better exposure to the tanks lighting and also more room for growth

- safety 1 - locking plug mounts designed to accommodate all size frag plugs

- safety 2 - strength / stability - almost all single plug mounts have one magnet. I don’t care if it’s a strong one, my 2” turbos will pinwheel it or bulldoze it as they go by and things end up out of place.

While one of the spec’d magnets would be enough, I asked for double magnets, stacked vertically. One magnet is an axis point for rotation but two in a row, prevents this. Plus I want to ensure the weight of a multi branch torch/hammer/acro would be fully supported in the future. Vertical alignment is for leverage - much harder for separation compared to horizontal.

These dry sides are extremely strong. They will jump out of your hand to connect to the wet side or to another rack. Be extra careful with your glass and fingers.

That said…this is what we brought to life

It’s 143 gallons. Red Sea G2. I used a tape measure and it looks right at 5/8”.
I’ve had issues with magnets holding stuff in place is why I was curious.
I like those frag plugs you designed. I have a few torches and hammers that may benefit from something like that just to get them out of the sand.
The turbos move them around and I’m always having to upright or move them back.

Oh nice! I thinks I will gets some in the near future.

I just got 10 of these for my sandbed to get some things elevated and grow out some mini domes of acans

I threw a torch in one, works great. But I do want some stuff to fill in my back wall so the angled aquarocks will do that job nicely

They are great for acans and zoas and you can make nice dome gardens. I also put torches and hammers in them and it keeps the stable and above the sand.
