Every now and then I get "re-inspired" to show majanos some love. Over the years I've had several dedicated nano tanks, as well as allowing them to coexist in my main tanks. Before I get started, a disclaimer - all of these anemones are considered nuisance/invasive, and if you do NOT have them, you should be forewarned before thinking you need some.

My hope is to list all the different variations of majano anemone that I've seen for the good of other hobbyists trying to ID them, hopefully get to see/learn about ones I didn't know about before. SOME day, I want to collect them all, just because I love tiny anemones!

1. All brown/purple - tips will sometimes bubble and turn white, depending on tank conditions (have)

2. Brown tentacles, green center - tips will sometimes bubble depending on tank conditions (need)

5. All green - tips will sometimes bubble depending on tank conditions (need)

I don't have a picture for this one, but I swear they exist. If anyone has a good picture, please share it!

6. Green center and tentacles with pink tips - tips will sometimes bubble depending on tank conditions (need!!!)
(Although this is a long-standing favorite of mine, I recently learned this is not technically a majano. I am including other species that are similar in appearance & growth patterns in case they show up in someone's tank.)

Other - Green and yellow striped tentacles and center? - not sure if this is even a real majano, but I want it to be! (need!!!)

Hopefully this isn't all there is out there, so if you see something not on this list, share it, please!

And if you just want to share pretty pictures of your tiny anemones, this is a safe place to give them some love!

Guys... guys... I got some new majanos! These are my all time favorite, as far as majanos go. I'm so excited, I've been watching them like they were a prized coral for the last few days. I even hand fed them mysis today, lol. Once I get them to split a few times I have a 29g tank for them, and I'll release some into my main display too.

Hey. Love this thread. In your experience how invasive are they in a mature and very biologically diverse reef aquarium? Thanks.
Hello! It has been my experience that they are still invasive when interacting with things that stay small, such as zoanthids or palythoas. But other things like leathers, brain corals, etc. can grow large enough to ignore them. SPS are usually stung at the base, but majanos don't usually climb them if the lighting is good.
