I have a 300g tank that was overrun by majanos. I essentially have shut the tank down other than keeping it heated and circulating. I have blacked it out from any light hoping to eradicate the nuisance algae and majanos. Will this work or must I take more drastic measures? The tank is over 6 years old so I hate to kill the liverock and start over from scratch. There are no fish or corals in it.

this is longshot, but since no one else has yet chimed it, have you considered one of those biota aptasia eating filefish? I've read few mentions of majanos as I've been doing colonial hydroid research (got those...). Other CUC that might work are peppermint shrimp or chocolate chip starfish. For algae control, why not Vibrant?! Or, if the hairy weird algae try Reef Flux. Currently treating my tank with both Vibrant (about 5-6 weeks in) and Reef Flux (4 days in - 1st day with skimmer back on - overflowed before lunch - LOL)
