Snails, hermits, crabs, shrimp are all on the menu for a mantis. They may coexist for a long time but it's always a risk. The rule of keeping mantis shrimp is don't add anything to the tank that you don't want to lose. Since it's a hitchhiker it's most like N. wennerae. It will turn bright green once it's been in your tank for a while. Bright reef tank lighting makes them turn green after a molt or two.

Usually the hitchhiker mantis shrimp come from Florida live rock. They put the rocks out in the ocean and life starts to inhabit it. N. wennerae mantis shrimp are very common hitchhikers in Florida live rock. There are others too but N. wennerae is most common. If you got the mantis from an LFS it could be another species. Check the list here and it will help you to identify it if you're interested. Meral spots (the colored spots just above the smasher appendages) are helpful in identifying mantis shrimp. If someone at the LFS knows where it came from then that will help also.
