After years of keeping freshwater tanks life and kids caused us to take a few years off the fish hobby. With a little help from "baby shark" and the grandparents we managed to get a day for ourselves and desided to take a tour of our LFS's. We had been talking about getting back into the hobby for the past few months and both agreed that we wanted to try our hands with a salt water reef system.
After 5hrs of talking with some fantastic shop owners and shopping for tanks i was convinced we would be going the custom route as the space limitations limited us to tanks around the 40g range. But after almost resigning to that truth we were intoduced to the Waterbox brand and eventually the Waterbox Marine X 90.3...SOLD its 60gallon display tank with build in sump, plubing and beautiful stand ticked all the boxes and now the waiting game began.

Time to get to work and get work and build the stand. First piece of advise is that the cabinet and tanks are all extremely heavy and definitely is a two person job. After a couple hours we had the stand built and with a little help lifted the tank into place

Plumbed in the sump and it was time to start thinking about the aqua scape...we wanted to come up with something unique and although i liked the idea or using carib sea life rock, i wasnt convinced we could make the desired design with preformed shapes. So marco rock was the route we went. 3 days of playing with designs and smashing/drilling/gluing later we setteled on a design.

Time to get this tank cycling. We added live sand then water and started up the pumps. We decided to cycle the tank using turbo and peice of shrimp. We started to test every 3 days and its back to the waiting game.

Almost a month of testing later i finally felt confident the cycle had reached a point that we could add our 1st wave of CUC and a couple fish. We added 2 AI prime 16HD lights tuned down to 30%
CUC - 10 blue legged hermits, 3 turbo snails, 6 cerith snails, 1 emerald carb.
Fish - 1 black phantom clown fish, orange storm clown fish
