marineland canister issues...

cant get my marineland 550 h.o.t. canister to stop putting out smallish air bubbles and being so loud. purchased used and never got a manual. downloaded pdf from foster-smith but its still loud and bubbly. discovered gaskets were in wrong spots, fixed that... no improvement. any other suggestions.?

yeah i checked the impeller. didnt notice any uneven wear or anything

Pretty sure you are always going to have the air bubbles unfortunately, not sure about the noise though.

Somehow air is getting in. You may want to try replacing the gaskets. I remember seeing a thread about this somewhere. I'll post more info when I find it.

You can try placing a coating of vaseline on the gaskets after installing them to prevent them from pinching.

update. previous owner had gaskets installed wrong, one was ripped in half due to improper placement. replaced and vaselline coated gaskets are working great. now my skimmer is louder than the filter and very minimal bubbles. its difficult to get rid of all of em when your skimmer drains directly into the dt.
