Hi all, my maroon female has been picking at my gonis and pulling off polyps, I just put the gonis in and every time they open he pulls some polyps. He doesn’t try to get them to host him but he’s being a menace, will he get over it or should I be concerned

He will do it forever and possibly move on to eat other lps that are similar

Fish Hosting gonies also often (not always) leads to their demise. They don’t like to be touched

Ugh one of my favorite fish with the most personality but I guess he’s gotta go. He got three nems on the other side of a 6 foot tank that host him but there’s something about the gonis that are ticking him off. He doesn’t do it with any other coral

Bro. I had a 5 yr old gold wall hammer colony stop opening on one side and then it gets bjd. This seemed to start randomly out of nowhere one day. I emergency frag it and the frags LIVE.

Then a few weeks later I get a flashlight to look at night. 2 of my 3 CARDINAL fish are nipping it relentlessly. I never heard of cardinals eating any coral

The frags died then they moved on to start eating torch. Needless to say. They are gone

You could stop keeping Goni :/

Or try another color.

I have 2 maroons and have been lucky that they haven’t picked at my Goni’s. On the other hand I can’t keep euphyllia because my long nose butterfly keeps eating them

Okay so I cant catch the dang fish but the gonis have started to open up and she's not biting anymore, he brushes up against them like she's trying to get them to host and then she goes right back to her 12 inch nem..... the gonis still retract when touched but not fully anymore. next question is will she ever get tired of it? the male Maroon is in a separate bubble tip and wont leave it even if you held a gun to his head which is good and what I want, the female is just a pain in my a**

You never know. Could do this for weeks then go back to biting. Really no way to predict but past behavior is best sign of future behavior

I caught the suckers while they slept have them in a critter carrier floating in the tank until I can find a pair of ocellaris or percs already being hosted by a nem to trade them for, worst case i might get another maroon since only the female was biting the coral
