How many MarsAqua 165W units would I need to provide good light in a 60 gallon with dimensions of 12.75 in L x 48.5 in W x 25 in H?

I would start with 2 units on a tank that size. But I suspect they have lenses in them, so you might need to either remove the lenses, or add a 3rd.

I use 2 black box fixtures over each of my 48" frag tanks just fine.

Two, but three would not bad either. If nothing else, you can save the third as a replacement. Even though Mars have good reliability, they do go out and once they do, finding your particular unit will probably be impossible and you have to get the "new" version.

Some of this depends on how high you are willing to run them.
