Well, things are going a little downhill. I've been slacking off on my water changes and now I'm getting the dreaded "red sand". I'm going to have to dedicate a little more time to cleaning this puppy up.

eh. some of them died and some are just hanging on. Everything else looks pretty darn happy. The sand is still going with the cyano, but I'm going to start upping the water changes back to where they should be and see what happens. bleh

for the cyano, buy red slime. works within 2 days and completely gone. then it gives you a chance to catch back up without being over run. just toss a aerator and place it in front of your return pump to keep the tank aerated. I used it once and it was gone, never to be seen again.

Thanks! I actually have a plan here. I'll be doing a pretty good water change today and immediately making more water to do another water change (hopefully thursday). I'll by siphoning out all the red goo each time and then I'm going to dose with peroxide. I've used it before when chemiclean wouldn't work. In that other case I tried chemiclean -didn't work- then dosed peroxide for two weeks. The cyano was just about gone and I finished it off with chemiclean and that worked. We'll see what happens. I'm going to try to convince my husband to let me upgrade again at the beginning of the year and I wont be able to do that if I can't keep up with maintenance on this one. He'll say "you already dont have enough time to take care of the one you have, why would we get a bigger one?" So I gotta get this mess cleaned up asap while I put together my plan for the bigger tank.

Oh it would go in the wall and take up half of my very small guest bedroom. lol

Ok here goes..... I got totally focused on my water change and getting rid of the cyano and forgot to get pictures of the "before"!! I know i know, not as impressive without it. You'll see some of the residuals that I couldnt see from above while siphoning. The corals are all pretty ticked off because of the peroxide and water change done so close together I think. But the cyano hasn't grown back yet and this video is a couple hours after siphoning it out. Pretty good considering how fast it comes back normally. Check out the video. You'll see some sad looking SPS corals and some really happy LPS and softies. :) Totally my fault with my lack of love the last couple months. I just bought a huge bucket of salt so I've got what I need, now I just have to force some times to do it every week! Oh and the MP40 I've been talking about will be here tomorrow! woot!

Sounds good and good luck! I just did a water change on my five gallon....As a matter of fact, I just got done. Keeping an eye on the salinity level is hard on such a small tank.

Oh I bet it is! I have a hard time with my freshwater 5 gallon. It doesn't take long before it needs to be topped up so the pump doesn't run dry.

It's the Fluval Spec V or something like that. It's an AIO that have a sponge filter with carbon tucked inside and a return pump in the next chamber along with the little heater that I'm not sure is even on. lol

My 3 gallon was the fluval spec 3. Awesome little tanks, but you gotta watch those corners after a few months for leaks. Mine leaked (if you remember and I had to reseal it) but other than that they are nice tanks! Enjoyed mine, but someone offered me a awesome price for everything and I had to take it.

It's HERE!!!!! YAY!!! My super new and very sexy power head lol. Nobody gets this but you guys. Even the people I work with think I'm crazy. Ok so I'm dosing peroxide in the display and have my skimmer off. It was on during this picture but it started making so many micro bubbles it drove me nuts so it off it went again.

You'll notice all the micro bubbles in the tank here. But the point of the picture is to show how much cyano came back from yesterday after I dosed the peroxide only once. Not bad!

A close up of where the worst of it is. Yesterday, before the water change, the entire sand bed was completely covered in it. Now this is most of what has returned. I just put another dose of peroxide in the tank after this picture was taken.
