Hi everyone,

I'm new to the game, got most of my equipment and will start to cycle the tank soon. Details of the tank:

- bare bottom
- fake rock
- saltwater
- will be using fish food as source of ammonia

Regarding the cycle, is there much difference between Microbacter 7 and Tropin Marin nitribiotic? I got MB7 and a friend gave me the Tropin.
Which one to use? use together? at the same time?

thanks in advance, any help appreciated

Welcome to R2R!

My understanding is that you could use both since you are feeding bacteria to your new aquarium but curious what others think.

They both contain nitrifying microbes, what you want for the cycle. MB7 also contain microbes that handle nitrates and phosphates, while Nitribiotic contains microbes that handles hydrogen sulfide. At least that's what is said on their respective sites.

Personally, if it is a choice between the two of them or using both, I'd dose both.

MB7 has mixed reports recently, with some saying it worked while others saying it did not. I had personal experience with it and seemed like it did not quite work, but there could always have been confounding factors. So take that with a grain of salt.

Update: Ok, so the fish flakes didn't really do much so I got some ammonia solution. I've added it into the tank and the reading is about 2ppm.

I have also added both MB7 and the Tropin Marin nitribiotic, both daily.
I am waiting for the ammonia levels to drop and will top off accordingly.

Question is what do I do with the MB7 and Tropin? continue to add daily? if so, for how many days?

Hey, I'm doing the same with my cycle and wondering how yours went. I've heard adding different bacteria prolongs the cycle but not sure if it's true.
