Approximately 3 years ago a friend introduced me into the world of saltwater tanks. I started with a 90g and a homemade sump. Everything in that tank was mostly used or eBay finds.

I moved from my apartment and into a house which required me to break everything down.

So I ask that you follow along my journey because it will be a long one. Please give me insight and any feedback. I will be as descriptive as possible and take photos along the way.

I ordered my SC Aquarium January 25, 2021 it has not arrived yet however it’s at its last dock and should be here Monday.

One of the problems I had was that I have a crawl space and my floor joists run parallel where I plan to place my tank. See photos

naturally floor supports were of my main concern for the span since it will weigh approximately 2,500 lbs. so I purchased two 19 inch Akron floor jacks from my local Lowe’s.
These are rated up to 16,000 lbs. I used a very big and thick concrete block they sell for the footing and used pressure treated 4x6 for the header.

install took about 15 minutes each.

I am thinking of adding another horizontal joist then adding another brace as shown above in between the two. Thoughts?

So today I have started working on my stand. I started at 40 inches which puts the glass at eye level. I’m thinking I may need leveling feetsince I have tile grouted floors and they aren’t all level. I suppose I could shim.

started on the stand while I waited for the shipment. I’m pretty sure my house will collapse before this does. Next will be paint then skinning.

Looking good. I would use four of those jacks with longer header boards running from the foundation wall and at least 48" long headers. What you have is way better for support then it was. I would beef it up. That's just my opinion...

Appreciate the insight. Once I get the stand inside I plan on giving it a look over before I fully commit.

Today got the stand finished up! I placed a yoga mat at the top and tomorrow have friends coming over to place on the stand. I’ll be going into my crawl space checking I’m on the trusses and supports that I want to be on

Today with the help of a friend I was able to bring the glass indoors and place to stand. Illl be finishing up the doors this weekend for the stand.

I added my old lights, Maxspect Ethereals. The plan is to add 4T5 supplement and do a hanging canopy.

I can't even imagine my wife's reaction if I told her I was going to build a stand from scratch.
Sweet tool collection, I am jealous.
Yeah slowly but surely I got the tools together some new some old and hand me downs. I love off harbor freight.
