So I have a mimic tang. I love the yellow it brings to the tank. I am also excited that one day when it matures it will change coloration. It is peaceful with my other fish, I definitely love this fish. Question is...... I recently read there is more than one type of mimic tang?? Mine just has some orange by the gills. Also about when do they begin to change and how long does that process take? Mine is about 4.5" long now. Thanks for any input :-)

The change is going to be tough to call, we have no idea how old your fish is. To be quite honest I don't know how long it takes to fully change, but mine changed out in a few months time, before all the yellow had dimmed down. If yours in 4.5", is he a bright yellow? Or is it taming down?
The other mimic tangs are the Half Black and the Eibli Tangs.

Right, no way of knowing exactly how old it is. It is still bright yellow.
