Just felt like sharing - because none other than reefers would understand.

Had to take down my tank a year or so ago due to unreliability of work and moving houses (Oil and Gas industry) - and since then been itching to get back in.

Me and my then 3 year old would do everything on the tank together - and even though he doesnt remember as much - I miss the good times.

Will be back soon though - cant wait. WhatsApp Image 2018-02-07 at 7.37.06 AM.jpeg

I get it 100%. My 5 year old likes to check on the equipment in the sump to make sure everything is working. She also likes to remind me to do water tests (she likes to count the drops)

Oh and my 1 year old has started to take an interest too. She smacks on my office chair to get me to sit down with her to watch the fish. Feels awesome to share it with them.

Thanks for sharing @xaflatoonx !!! My kids (1 & 2) are starting to get curious. The older sister likes to peak into the cabinet at the sump and look at the "rocks" (pond matrix). When my ATO pumps water into my return chamber I get bubbles in the display and she loves it shouting "BUBBLES!!!!".

Good lookin family there @Daltrey - thank you for the note. And i absolutely agree - times goes by real quick. its crazy how we see their videos on the phone of a year ago and the change they have already gone through.

So what are we thinking is an appropriate age to add a fish tank to a kid's room? I'm thinking 7, but I don't have any rhyme or reason why. She could have a goldfish now but I think saltwater is too much right now.

I think 5.. lol... earlier than that is too risky - they will be wanting to pull those fish out and play with them. lol
but i agree - salt may be too much.. A bowl of goldfish, or even a nano with fresh water and HOB filter system would be great. Those blacklight NEON FW fish are pretty awesome for that.

That's sounds like a good age. I would help her for a couple of months and see how she handles it on her own a little at a time. I always thought glo fish tanks looked like alot of fun. Especially for the little ones.

Hmmmm... now I need to work on how this is for her and not me :)

I had a fresh water tank next to my crib. I had a 45g saltwater tank in my son’s room at about 1yr old. Fifteen years later, he has a 60g with an eel and a Coral Beauty in his room.

I had freash water tanks small ones 20 gallons in both of my kids rooms, And had 2 salt water tanks in the living room and 4 more in my man cave lol, then I got out do to a death, then I made a mistake lol I went scuba diving in Thailand well the reefs looked so go I needed back in my home lol. Have one now waiting on the delivery of my next one. Good luck
