I can't find my hermit crabs. I saw them a couple of weeks ago and I re aquascaped a couple of days ago but am not sure if I burried them or if they died of old age. I really don't know how long hermit crabs live but I got this pair as babies almost 13 years ago.

LOL; good to see you over here Paul. You didn't take the beer can out when you rescaped did you? Maybe they are hiding inside it.

The can rotted and I took it out a year or so ago. They can't fit in any of the bottles but they may be shedding somewhere.
Or maybe that is their lifespan

Could be they are molting and simply hiding out. Could be there lifespan. Like you, I don't really know what the lifespan of the average hermit crab is - based on how many most hobbists go through, I would say yours are pretty dang old.

I've had one hermit for 9 years. I can't believe you've had them so long..I'd say that's pretty old in hermit crab years :)

Well 9 years is really good also.

Here the male is pushing the female into the bubble coral. She always liked to play hard to get.

Thats wierd, whatever I put in my tank usually gets too big and I have to give it away. Even the extreamly common mud snails I collect here in tide pools seem to live forever. But I do lose some of the smaller hermit crabs. When I got this pair I also got 5 others with them, they stayed much smaller and disapeared one by one over those years. I just picked up 5 of them today, I will have to see how long they live. This batch seems kind of stupid and slow. I doubt they wil last long. The ones that I lost were much faster and they knew how to text.

Are there bigger holes in the rock that they coulda been hiding in and when you reaquascaped they could have been trapped?

They could be moulting but I doubt it. I think they are at the end of their lifespan but I do hope they show up. It's hard to find anything in my tank.
