So I'm starting my second tank and I've read a lot of people mix their first batch of saltwater in the tank. I'm using CaribSea Agar-Alive sand and was wondering if there would be any adverse effects to the live sand if I did it this way?

No, but it would be helpful to place a large plate on top of the sand and pour over it to reduce water turbulence that would make the water cloudy. You will get some die-off but it would be acceptable if you are planning to mix it soon after introducing the salt.

I would be make sure to add the salt slowly relative to how much water is in the tank . When I first filled up my forty gallon I must have added to much salt at once and it resulted in a flaky precipitation that would never mix out. I had to start over

Awesome! Thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to do that. :)

That stinks. I'll have to keep a close eye on that then. I'm new to mixing salt. I always just got water from my lfs for my RSM130d. Thanks :)
