Mixing wrasses

Thinking of adding a mystery wrasse to my 250 reef ? Currently have flame wrasse harem( 3f and 1 male) 4 lyretail anthais chevron and sailfin tang , would the mystery wrasse live peacefully or am I asking for trouble . Responses appreciated.

Stay away from mystery wrasse and six line especially. They can be very aggressive and are definitely in a much higher aggression category than the flame fairy wrasse. Most other fairy or flasher wrasse would be fine.

+1 I did it and regret it. Been trying to catch the !@#%$%^&* with no luck so far. Aggressive against everything but my Regal and m. Flame. Perfect example of not doing my homework:confused:

Mystery wrasses can definitely get aggressive. Particularly to other wrasses and to fish added after them.

What about leopard wrasse? Do they mix with other wrasses?

With any fish addition its usually a roll of the dice. Other than a little squabbling now and then I really have not had a problem with any wrasses. I had all these living peacefully along with 3 tangs, 5 angels, 10 anthias and a few other misc. I say had because I lost my red velvet to jumping a while back and one of my exquisite disappear (had a pair). Even the one fish everyone tells people to not get, the six line, is a model citizen and bothers no one. Most of these are at the 1-1.5yr mark in tank and the sixline was actually the first in tank. Its just luck of the draw. Sometime soon some flames are coming to this tank too :D

Cleaner, Six line, Yellow Coris, Pink Margin, Red line, Melanurus, Carpenters, Pearl, Exquisite, Red Velvet, Lubbocki

Leopard wrasses, although challenging the first couple of weeks, mix well with other wrasses.

I have had to remove more wrasses from the genus Pseudocheilinus than any other fish. There are always exceptions, but that's exactly what they are, exceptions.

I don't doubt anyone has issues with six line but every tank I have had in the past 25 years has had one. I just hate to see them always get a bad wrap when they are not only attractive but also a very useful utility fish for pests. For utility they are as good or better than a melanurus. Of course six line is the only pseudocheilinus I have ever kept (that I recall). Love the mystery wrasse too but will have to keep that in mind.

I have had to remove more wrasses from the genus Pseudocheilinus than any other fish. There are always exceptions, but that's exactly what they are, exceptions.

IMO they're a ticking time bomb oftentimes even the exceptions..

I've never heard of a model six line except online everyone I know personally that has had one has had trouble, myself included.

I read it as he was saying the genus Pseudocheilinus were the ticking time bombs, not leopards.

Not a leopard, a six line or mystery

If you can find one, could try a 4 Line Wrasse. I have 2 Leopards, a Yellow Coris and recently added a 4 Line that my LFS happened to have, which was rare. They are much more mild mannered than the 6 Line, much less common and IMO, much more attractive. Gets along great with the others. No aggression since adding over 3 months ago.

Have you tried adding any wrasses since getting the 4line. I've had the same issues with 4lines as I have with sixlines, especially as time goes on.
