I actually really enjoy this stuff. And it usually doesn't cost much. You'd be surprised at how little money I spend on projects that 60% of the time work every time. LOL!

Here is the test setup:



I used thermal tape to adhere the array to a heatsink I had laying around. I wasn't planning on running it any length of time so this is safe. I have the Inventronics driver turned all the way down.

This was the result:



That is just the left most two banks running.

The result was the same on the other three sets of wires tested. So, the array is fine.

I turned it up a bit but it seemed like it was way brighter than it should have been so I shut it down.

I sure wish I knew how many mA this thing could handle per bank. I have enough of these to drive all four banks to 700mA if I knew what it would do.

Went back over my math. Checked the power supply ratings again.

50 leds * 3.4 volts (about average for blue and white 3watt leds) * 500mA would be 85 watts. It says the power supply uses 90 watts. That's about 94% efficient. I don't think it will be that efficient but I am safe and assuming I can't go over 500 ma. That is if I am not way off base on my calculations.

Now, I just need everyone with a dead Kessil to send it to me so I can build "Frankenarray"! I want to build a 3 array setup out of an old starkled blue nova that the drivers died in it.

Math looks right.. 500ma sounds like a safe limit to me

It worked. Turns out though that the array has something wrong with it. You can run it about 45 minutes and it blinks. It's not a heat issue. I was only running 300ma through it and used an IR thermometer and it was very cool.

I just gutted it and am building a little two channel 7 LED array in it for a nano. :D

I can't leave anything alone.
