Just got some Live Rock from the gulf would love if anyone could ID this mollusk and tell me if it has any possibility of making it and if so what care is required. Thanks in advance.

The mollusk did open and close when I took him from the water I brought it home in and into the tank. It opened right back up. Don't know much about mollusks besides the one on one of my snails he wears as a hat in my main tank. Its still alive almost a year after being put in the tank but this thing is probably 2-3inches. I dosed a little phyto into the quarantine tank with the love rock but thats all I have done.

Looks like a type of mussel to me. Nice little bump to the biodiversity in the tank

Yeah, they'll do alright if you dose phyto. In terms of clean water, most binaries actually prefer water a little "dirty" since that usually relates to the ability of phyto to be present in the water column.

With supplemental phyto dosing, it should be able to hang around.

That’s awesome ! I got about 4 of them of my live rock from the gulf , had them for around 10 months so far , I just feed a lot and dose ab + they seem to be doing fine - my tank is a little dirtier than some 20 ppm nitrate and .13 phosphate
