Money in this hobby?

I have a young acquaintance that started out working in a LFS in high school. It gained his interest and he went off to college and got his degree in Marine Biology. Went to Florida and worked on reef restoration and coral propagation in the Keys. Just last month I learned that he was back in town and managing a convenience store and no longer even in the hobby. I haven't talked to him much since he has been back and don't know what led to moving back home, but maybe too much of a good thing and the money just wasn't there. Very bright young man and I hope he gets back in the hobby.
