helllo reef2reef, I'm considering buying a new water pump for my Sump return. Any advice from experienced reefers who can point me in the right direction? I'm looking for absolute quality/function/reliability of course. Any help is very much appreciated. -thank you!

In my opinion having two pumps is better than one regardless of the make or quality although maybe less likely a high end pump can still fail and isn’t guaranteed to last any longer although the after sales service is likely to be better
having a spare pump to switch out at a moments notice is more important to me than getting the “highest quality” so I bought two pumps within my budget instead of spending it all on one.
Just my opinion as you know a return pump will most kill fail at the worst possible moment.

What do people here think about royal exclusive and abyzz?

I was considering one of those , I like the 10 yr Warranty on the abyzz to me that speaks volumes on how confident they’re that their product won’t fail and if it does fail say in 7 yrs they will replace it that’s just nuts to me

Hey Mikey,

Whats your head loss on the setup? Do you want internal or external pump? What's your budget?

Need more info on your tank and budget to make a proper recommendation @minnowme
If budget is of no concern look at the Abys pumps
If budget is a concern look at the Sicce Syncra SDC and Reef Octopus Varios pumps.

Mag drive pumps get stuck when powered off, and make a lot of heat
Dc pumps don’t deal well with head

I love my Eflux but because of my APEX I am about to change to neptune. I have been studying them and there are a lot of places and people that rank them at the top of the list in number 1 spot. They seem to have very little to no bad feed back.
