I'm out of the hobby for a few years due to life being busy and teenage kids. However, I'm fully into the research phase for the next tank and equipment.
As such, I'm researching controllers so I can have peace of mind when I go out of town for a few days, and have a more successful reef due to fewer parameter swings.

What controller is the most user-friendly and reliable out there today?
I had a GHL Profilux 4 that was well-made but not easy to work with.
This leaves me leaning towards either Apex or Hydros (currently), but I'm not married to either yet. If there is something better, by all means, let me know.

I'm looking to automate dosing, lighting, temperature control, wavemaker schedules, and feeding from an Avast Plank.
I would like to be able to control something like the Aquawiz for kH testing and control as well.
Finally, I want to receive notifications/alarms when something critical fails, such as a power outage, a temperature that is too high/too low, or a pump failure.
Data logging of parameters such as pH and temperature would be nice too, but it is not necessary.

That seems like a lot when I type it all out, but I don't "feel" that it is asking for too much?

Honestly, the apex isn't too hard to figure out. Once you tinker with it for a few, it's pretty easy to customize it to your liking.

None are as easy as they should be. My apex has been fine for the most part, it does require some learning, but it’s not hard.

I still have issues finding the right icon to do what I need to do, but I eventually find what I need.
