So I moved my rocks around today which of course created a cloudy mess. Now that the fog has cleared I noticed my rocks are covered with what looks like greyish stringy crap every where. Is that normal or do I need to scrub all of it off?

I would have to see it but its probably those worms that grow in the darkness. im not even certain what that is but I think once its under intense light it goes away

Do biggest water change you can do and it should help if it's anything

Here another option (link)... I described what I did to get rid of detritus and avoid a mini cycle after removing the sand of my 40 gallons.
It might be too late for the filtration part, but the GAC may help....
Good luck.

Edit: Sorry, just realized it was a few days ago... Maybe my experience can help you next time. :-)
