Hey all. So I am moving into a rental house for around a year or so I’m trying to find the best way to transfer my tank/upgrade it safely. My current tank is 75g but set up is all Jerry rigged as I had no options when setting up. Unfortunately I had a mini tank crash in the past few months and lost some corals and have a pretty large infestation of aptasia along with a good amount of hair algae. I have a chance to go to a bigger 150g but looking for best way to set up and transfer everything. Plan was to have new tank set up with fresh sand and a little new rock so I don’t transfer aptasia and algae with current rock. I’ll let old rock dry out killing everything including the bacteria unfortunately but I have a good amount of bio media in sump. If I’m able to let it cycle for a week I will but if not then this will be done in a day. I’m less worried about the cycle and more about transferring fish and corals. Bring some old water to help too? Any suggestions for those who’ve done this before I’m all ears. Thanks!

Biological media has the potential to transfer aiptasia the same as live rocks.

I recently killed a lot of Mojano anemones by putting the rocks in a ziplock that I placed overnight into the freezer. I suspect that much of the microbes didn’t get killed in the process?

I would fill the new tank with new saltwater to avoid transferring pests from the old tank to the new. Water doesn’t have much nitrifying bacteria, that’s located on the rocks in the tank, for the most part.
