So, after the death of my HI Fin Red Band Goby, I'm considering different replacements and have it narrowed down to another HI Fin or a Wheeler's Shrimp Goby. Could I possibly add both options to the tank? Will they fight or will one of them pair up with a Pistol shrimp and harass the other one?

These type of questions always depend on the tank size and the amount of rockwork. If the tank is big enough with enough rockwork for each goby to have its own private cave without bumping into each other, it should work.

Thank you! It's a 25 gallon lagoon with the following rock structures. Do you think that would be enough rockwork or should I just pick one?

I would say no, but doubly so if you have no lid. If there is aggression between fish, they will chase each other, and that will end up with one jumping in most cases. One with a pistol shrimp and other things should be no problem.

And while I get the appeal of no lid, I would still consider one, especially for the period shortly after introduction. It sucks to have your new buddy carpet surf and even non-jumpers can sometimes jump when not comfortable in the space (like when they are newly introduced.)

Thank you! I have a lid, I had just taken it off to pull water out for parameter testing and do some cleaning. There's nothing in it currently so I wasn't too worried about putting it back quickly.

You raise an interesting question . I don’t know if they would fight with each other . But I wouldn’t recommend two differing pistol shrimps , they may meet somewhere and fight. But I do have a recommendation: If you do get pistol shrimp . I would lay the rock on the glass and not on the sand . Pistols will tunnel all over the place and sometimes extensively . So although the chances are small . I would nt want a tunnel collapsing because of a shifting rock . I believe that is how I lost my Randall’s goby . I gave it some time but they both never reappeared . So eventually I took all the rock out and gently sifted the gravel . Never found their bodies

A little late to this but I would think you could keep the yellow headed red band or Rose Goby and a Wheelers together in a 25 gal. I have two together in a 20 gallon long and they are fine together. I also have a pair of them along with two Yasha's in a larger 90 gallon. As long as you have enough rock structure for each you should be OK. Avoid the larger gobies like the Watchmans which I have found to be very territorial, and you should be good.

Thank you! I've been watching the Wheeler's and his behavior seems to be to mostly stick to the left side of the tank leaving quite a bit of room on the other side alone.

A little off-topic, but looks like your tank is pretty new. These shrimp gobies need more established tanks/substrate and get stressed out pretty easily.
