Mushroom Frag Tank

Do I need to cycle a frag tank if I'm just using media rubble as “sand” for mushrooms to attach to as they split or drop babies?

Depends on your flow. You could just put a rubble box in the main tank as well. If flow isn't bad they will find their way and attach. It's like boiling water though. Don't look to much otherwise thry will never attach. And mushrooms never go where you want then .... just where they are happy.

Sorry I think I worded my question wrong. I meant do I need to cycle a frag tank if I'm just using media rubble as “sand” for mushrooms to attach to as they split or drop babies?

I would think not as long as you added nitrates and phospates and continue to test and do so but if adding fish to that you will need to cycle. I would pull your water from the main tank. You could do water exchanges with your main tank also every couple days depending on size . Depends that your looking to do. I personally would pipe the frag to the main tank.

I think the answer you're looking for is no, you don't need to nitrogen cycle a frag tank. The shrooms don't excrete nearly as much ammonia as a fish would, and the corals can uptake some ammonia directly from the water. IF you wanted to have fish, then you would want to cycle your tank.
