For a few months I have been wondering if it was worth the hassle to switch my Radions over to the MXM from Mobius. I bit the bullet yesterday.
I have had a bunch of Radions running on the tank, on Mobius, since 2020 when I flipped the switch. I started with 6 G5 Blues. Mobius has been fickle the whole time, but in the last year, I started having real challenges with firmware updates and schedule adjustments. Some of the lights would not save the changes, take the upgrade, or connect. I now have 3 of the origional G5s, and 3 new G6s running. As one dies, I've been replacing it.
In Feb, I replaced the T-5 supplements with Blades and put an MXM on the tank. Accidently, I moved the G6 bank over to MXM at that time, and it ended up being easier to just configure them in Fusion than figure out how to undo it and recreate the schedule in Mobius. So I have been living w a bank of G5s in Mobius, and a bank of G6s in FUSION. I have been wondering if I should bother moving the old G5s over, and was worried that they may be problematic.
However, one of them became so problematic that I had to hard reset it and still had issues, so it is going back for repair/replacment. I decided to just move the others over. The less I deal with Mobius, the better.
Like before, it was a pretty straightforward process, although the G5 and G6 are different and so I could not use a G6 template to copy to the G5. It did give me a chance to set up FALLBACK PROFILES in Mobius for all these lights in case the APEX craps out.
One immediate benefit of having them on FUSION is the ability to adjust individual lights. With an 8 foot tank and 6 lights, I had very high PAR in the middle but lower on the ends. Given how much length and rock I have, it meant that a lot of my prime reef crest was below max PAR. While this might be good in a mixed reef / smaller tank, for me it just reduced the SPS growing zone / limited colors etc. So I have been able to adjust specific lights to flatten out the PAR lengthwise.
FUSION also allows for a "whites" profile which might be good for taking pictures, although given that the lights are Blues and have very few white LEDs, is awfully dim. I may just be better with orange filters and post processing.
And then there is the ability to do lightning and storms, which seems unnecessarily risky to the fish who don't like raves anyway. Are there other benefits of using FUSION - other things I could do to make the tank better? I've heard of temperature limits (can do with an outlet already), seasonal tables for spawning (not desired), anything else?
