A few months ago I bought a used 125 gallon with stand and canopy for $200. It is an older setup, guess mid 90's.

Due to the limited space inside the cabinet, as this is a shorter cabinet measuring 24 inches tall. I decided to go with 2 20 gallon long glass aquariums for the sump, connected by uniseals and 2 2 inch PVC pipes.

Installed plumbing from overflow to the sump. Main drain into overflow for socks, secondary drain into skimmer chamber, and emergency drain goes into the end chamber of the skimmer area high enough to make noise soni know when there is an issue. I also installed a check valve to limit siphoning when return pump is turn off.

Return nozzle installed, just went with 1. I am going to reuse my current return pump on my 55 gallon, it is a jeboa dc return pump, it is set on the lowest setting possible, sonit should be good to go for this 125 gallon. Also bringing over to this 125 is my current protein skimmer, SCA-301. I have a moderately stocked 55 gallon so this should handle the job for now.

Had a small leak in the sump at a uniseal going from one 20 gallon to the other, got that fixed with some silicone ad it was a spot I missed prior. Herbie drain has no leaks. Hoping no leaks from the overflow. Filling it it up right now.

Just the usual little drips, which have all been corrected now.

The light that decided to go swimming is working, although there are a few lights that no longer work. So that sucks.

Flow from one 20 gallon long to the next was a bit on the low side, so I added a small pump to send water from the skimmer chamber to the return chamber. Now the water level is being maintained higher and using less RODI water in the process. Have some coraline turning white now. I did leave the lights on while I was filling the tank, that is on me.

Great idea on the 2 20 gallon tanks for a joint sump set up!

In theory yes, in practicality upon usage not so much. It is plausable to do and have work for a long time. Unfortunately mine sprung leaks within the bottom seals and seams as it was leaking from under the tank on the right. The seals on the tank on the left started to leak as well. All seals were siliconed in place.

Tank looks great. Sorry about the sump issues. I ended up going through the wall into the closet of spare bedroom for my 125G. Any house guests are going to have to deal with it, lol.

I have since replaced the sump with a Trigger Systems Crystal 36. Once a month I harvest a 5 gallon bucket of cheato.
