Hello. My name is Aaron. I’m planning on posting my progress build / setup of my new Redsea 650 peninsula. I have had several other tanks in the past to include several 55,65, and 200 gallon reef setups. This is my first build with a new tank from scratch. It’s been 3 years since taking a Pause due to moving from HI to WA.

I have spent the last few years saving up for my military retirement gift. Collecting my equipment recently and doing my research for what I want.

The following is what I have purchased and will be included in my build far:

Tank - Red Sea Reefer Peninsula 650
Total system water volume 175g

Controller
Neptune Systems Apex
-(2) 8 plug power bar
-Apex leak detection
-Apex flow sensor
-Apex Display

Testing and Dosing
-(2) Dual Dos fluid meters
-Apex Trident system

Lighting
4 - Ecotech Marine Radion XR15 Blue G5
1 - Aquatic Life 61” T5 hybrid
1 - Apex PMK par monitoring
2 - Geismann Blues
2 - Geismann purple plus

Flow
2 - Icecap 4K Gyre’s

Skimmer
Nyos Quantum 160 Skimmer

Return Pump
Neptune System Cor 20

Heating
(2) 300w aquatop titanium heaters

RO/DI
BRS 5 stage premium super saver 150gpd
-Booster pump

I’m excited to get some good advice from the many users on this forum.

So I received my tank with a damaged stand.. the carriers damaged it in transit. I called Redsea and within 10 days I had an all new stand delivered no charge. I will posting a few updates today of what I’ve done so far to get to the point I currently am at which is:

1. creating my controller board.
2. Aquascape with life rock
3. Installing the tank on the stand (6 person lift)

I utilized the damaged tank stand panels which were replaced by Redsea to make a few controller boards.

I’m mounting my Apex stuff on the one and the other will hold my power bricks, and icecap controllers and power power supply backup. The boards are held in place by super strong magnets for removal as needed.

I made one 4” deep with the apex controllers to hide the cabling and clean things up. The other is 2” deep but will be on the cutout side against the wall. I figured I’ll mount in tank items like my Radion and Icecap gyre controllers on that one. There are a lot of really cool apex and pump mounting blocks on ETSY you can buy and add to make it unique (3D printed). I bought a bracket for my trident, and some power block mounts that are being shipped. The inner divider wall I will have my two Dos’s mounted.

I’ll have to check Etsy out! I have a 3D printer. So I’ve been experimenting with some brick holders, but would love to get some more inspiration. Your set up looks super clean!

Nice build!! Glad to see you're reusing the damaged stand.

I Mounted my Radion Blues onto my T5 hybrid setup. I’m going to test them out tonight. I used a cable router from home depot to bundle the cables. I’ll need to mount this bundle to the top. I’m using a hydra hanging kit to suspend them. I’m nervous about hanging/anchoring them into the ceiling...

I’m planning my sump setup. I’m using a COR-20 for my return pump, Nyos 160 Quantum skimmer (not sure if this will be big enough).

I’m going to have a Brightwell aquatics media brick and Plan to have live rock in the refugium area with chaeto. I still need to buy a refugium light.

Does anyone use the apex refugium light? Any recommendations?

I use a cheap grow light from Amazon on my fuge. It’s amazing.

Do you have any pictures you’d be willing to share? I love seeing other people’s setups of what works.

I had converted the stock ATO to a ATS. And freed up the refugium area to be my frag/holding tank. Lights are TUNZE ECO CHIC REFUGIUM LED.

NYOS 160 is a tat too small for me, I have to empty the cup every 24 hours.
