Water change day! Been taking it slow and easy fir the most part. This weekend I ended up moving everything from my tiny frag tank into the sump. Most of the corals seem to be adjusting just fine, a few are a bit ticked off but we’ll give them some more time to adjust. I’ve also pulled half my sandbed out and replaced it with larger grained sand so I can crank up the fliw on my gyre. The tiny grains were flying around, but I was getting detritus buildup in a few spots. Hopefully this solves that problem.

Will get more pics in the morning tomorrow.

I didn’t end up going, I wouldn’t have had much time there due to other obligations so I just decided to wait til next year so I can hopefully make both days.
Tank is doing well. I think I got my flow issue solved so I should be able to move some more corals onto the rocks soon! In the mean time, I enjoy just watching the fishies swim around.
I also added the major diffuser lenses to the AP700, and it’s really made a huge difference in the shadow caused by the center support of the frame. Definitely enjoying the light

Frags are all adjusting well to the switch. Looking forward to growing them out a little more and adding them to the display.

There was one leptastrea frag that didn’t make it, but it started struggling a few months ago, so not terribly surprised. All others look pretty good and enjoying the KZ coral colors system (recommended by vetteguy).

I was also having a bryopsis issue, but after a few rounds of manual removal and using vibrant, there are ZERO traces of it left that I can see. Love this stuff! Took care of a few patches of GHA as well.

So I’ve still been playing with the flow, trying to find the sweet spot (keeping debris suspended but not causing a sandstorm). It’s definitely better than it was, but I decided to order the new IceCap 2k with the new controller. I’m pretty excited to get it and mess with it. I plan to hook my older 1k up with it so I can run both gyres from my phone! Gotta love new gear!!

My how time flies! Almost a year since my last update, and so many things have changed, where to start...?

It’s been a rough year for the reef. Due to the pandemic, we have been absolutely swamped at work since April. I was originally working part-time and therefore had plenty of time for reefing. However, in April I was asked to go full-time (which I agreed to, I do love my job after all) and subsequently had less free time. What free time I did have, was used towards the kids, and a young horse I had bought in January (needed to be handled and basic training started). Long story short, even basic reef maintenance was a struggle and often only getting done once a month. Not surprisingly, things started looking terrible. Various algae, a few fished carpet surfed, and just an overall disgusting looking tank. I tried to sell the whole setup with no luck, and basically just left it be running minimally.

Cut to now, and somehow I mustered the time and effort to rip clean the tank and start again. I think I’ve finally figured out my schedule a little better, and I’m anticipating being able to do better. Horse is mostly trained and requires a bit less attention, and I’ve adjusted my work days so that I’m off every weekend (was previously working Saturdays). Fingers I'm hoping for the best!

I forgot to take a full tank pic, but even just the sand was gross

Very beautiful horse! Cute bunny, too! My daughter (7) keeps trying to talk us into getting her one  ;Hilarious I love your 'scape. Do you think you'll add the sand back, or are you going to try bare bottom?
Thank you! The bunny is definitely more work than you would think, but also super fun to interact with. The cat is afraid of her, snd the dogs are still trying to decide how they feel about her. She pretty pushy with them, so not at all like the rabbits outside, and that’s confusing. Lol.
Definitely going to add the sand back in. I just prefer the look of sand in a reef tank. It will probably be a pretty thin layer, in hopes that it will be easier to keep clean. I like to blow the sand with a turkey baster to keep clean.
Snapped a few quick pictures this morning. Everything seems to be adjusting just fine, so hopefully next week-ish I’ll try gluing some frags onto the rocks to get rid of the frag racks.

Looking good! I love the zoas :)

Yeah, one of the things that concerns me about a bunny is the dogs. We have a Cairn Terrier (loves to "hunt", though he never actually catches anything) and a St. Bernard (BIG! If she didn't try to eat the bunny, she'd end up crushing it when she tried to play with it). I think we'll hold off on getting a bunny for a while lol
