My All DIY Tank Setup

Hello Everyone,

I am finally setting up my all DIY Tank build. I have been building and testing the tank for the past 4-5 months and it is finally time to set it up.

I will keep this thread updated as I setup, cycle, and stock the tank. Hope you enjoy!!

How tall is the tank? That is what really creates most of the pressure on the glass. The tank is 24” tall . Overall the build looks great. You have done a super job! I think the display panel may be a bit too big for my comfort. I probably wouldn’t have built the tank taller than 21” or...

Here is my first update on the tank set up. I have my lights installed the tank is up and running and I built a controller box!!!

I went ahead and added a clean up crew as my ammonia finally went down.

My upcoming plans are to add the chaeto to the refugium and one or two fish by the end of this week!!! I also hope to add two T5s to my lights I already have.

Also I am thinking about adding live sand this week. Let me know what you guys think I should do live sand or bare bottom?

I decided to add live sand to my tank!!! Also got in my refugium pack from algae barn and that is all now up and running....

Hi, Will, you share the full guide about how you made your reef tank? I am also doing a reef tank following the guide of one guy. I am doing a protein skimmer right now following this protein skimmer DIY. I can say it's really hard for me but I think that the result will satisfy me. Continue writing in this thread. It will be interesting to read it.

When I first built my tank, I did DIY everything. Stand, skimmer, sump, overflow, everything. The skimmer I built was out of PVC pipe. It worked really well. I eventually saved up and bought a Magus Curve. Good luck!
