So I placed an order for a hello reef clownfish kit and the stand for it. About $800 for both. I also added an ai axis 20 pump to this order. So $900 total. This was Oct 2nd.

On October 5th, I get an email that my order has shipped. It said all 3 items were shipped. To my surprise on Oct 8th, I have a tiny package that has just the pump. No tank or stand to be found. The tracking info from ups shows a 1 pound box was sent. But on the website it shows this tracking number for all 3 products.

But wait it gets worse!

I opened a paypal dispute and messaged aquarium specialty here (they will not answer emails or calls ever). Someone named Scott got back to me and said it was a glitch and for some reason when he shipped out the pump, the system closed the order. Okay cool I can understand that stuff happens. I was very cordial and understanding.

He then asks me to remove the paypal dispute. I tell him I’ll do so when I get tracking info and when he sends me the order confirmation from Hello Reef on his end to prove he ordered it. He then says he’s been in business for 20 years but okay he understands and he’ll place the order now and get this rolling for me.

Cool.

Nothing happens. I messaged again on reef2reef. Nothing. Today, Oct 19th was the deadline PayPal gave him and so my refund has been sent to me. I’m just wondering how screwed I would have been if I ended the PayPal claim prematurely when he told me to.

I would avoid buying from this place. I thought saving on tax for a big order was worth it but it wasn’t.

Do you guys have any recommendations on which online platform I should order the hello reef clownfish kit and stand from?
