Heres my second attempt at a simple battery backup system.

My last attempt was 2x 12v 18ah batteries wired in parallel so i can use 1 charger but feeding 2 mp10s...when the power goes out, they dont run reliably when both pumps plugged in (maybe a voltage imbalance, so ive remedied it by only plugging one pump in)

Anyone see any issues with this new schematic? Or have any better ideas?
Batteries used are size restricted so larger batteries are out of the question.

Main concern is if 300w of heaters are sized appropriately for a 500w inverter and if i ever need to increase to 400w of heaters, is the inverter going to be undersized at 500w?

Still need to accurately calculate run times and total cost but this is all i got for now.
And im sure im overlooking more than 1 thing.

Yes....... thats a sticky post-it note......

this is my rough draft of my backup plan ....
If only my HOA would approve a generator enclosure......lol.

Also, theres nothing else in my house i really care to power in an outage other than my wifi network so the cost is a little prohibitive.

Im only a few hundred into this system

Looks pretty good. The wattage on the heaters is a maximum rating, so you probably won’t get anywhere near that unless it’s really cold outside.

You could buy a kill-a-watt to measure the real-time draw of your various items, might give you a better idea of average draw.

Nice thanks for the suggestion. Ill have to look into this to help with my calculations :)

I figured they were just at the peak rating already being heating elements.

I read that having some extra capacity is better since i dont want to load up a 300w inverter at 100% anyways due to wanting a spare plug for an additional 100w.
Then we start getting into efficency too....

I almost started to incorperate a transfer switch because i thought, how the heck are the batteries supposed to stay at full charge while powering a 500w inverter with a good load on it.....
I guess in order to do that, you would need a much more expensive inverter and in turn, overcomplicating the system.

Plus the batteries i have are twice the amp hours of the ecotech backups so ill have double the runtime.
I still gotta play with the battery backup settings in ecosmart live.
I hate the mobius platform.

So i hooked up 2 batteries last night to charge and only one of the banks was working....
I guess i should have known better than to select the used option on amazon for $25 less.

Likely all the used ones were the returned malfunctioning units.
Doubt amazon tests them before slapping a sticker on it and sending it back out.

Maybe since im returning it like a rats nest they will decide to not resell it lol.

And now seriously considering using 2 dual bank chargers vs the 4 bank for some redundancy. Screw the extra outlet....it may not even come to that eventually.

any inverter gurus out there?

Does anyone have any brands they suggest?
I did a little research and found the bestek is regarded as the best budget inverter....
Was gonna try and steal one from my old ups systems but theyre 24v -_-

@Saltyreef what did you end up going with for your battery backup solution?
Scroll up to the first post :)

Still not complete since its going to be for a new build but right now im just running 35ah batteries on each mp10 connected to a dual bank smart charger.
Modified ecotech battery backup cables to clamp on.

Each battery is twice the size of ecotechs backup so runtime should be phenomenal.

Sounds like quite an expensive set up.
I mean the optima battery is $300+ alone.

Do you have a schematic or photo i can see how you incorperated everything and what you're actually backing up with the inverter?

battery backup only as good as the battery used
