Here is one of the gifts we got our 9 yr old daughter and ourself..LOL!

Anybody familiar with these little guys?

Never been fond of them really, but that is an awesome pic. you should submit it to some animal mag.
 
yeah not a big fan of small animals myself, mainly because i used to work at petsmart and when you smell that much poop and have to clean it after, memories just haunt me

I wasn't too fond of having another pet to watch over, but watching my daughters eyes light up and hearing the screams of glee makes it all worth it! This is all she can talk about right now. She wasn't expecting it at all. I kept it for three days in a walk in closet and when she wasn't around I would get it out and play with it. Cute little guy and very mellow.
 
I'm familiar with them :)

Guinea pigs need vitamin C supplementation as they cannot synthesize it themselves. You can put drops in their water or feed them foods high in Vit C (dark leafy greens, etc).

For bedding DO NOT use pine or cedar, they're more concentrated in phenols which can cause respiratory problems in G-pigs (and other animals too).

Overall g-pigs are a relatively easy critter to care for and make good pets :) Here's a pretty good website for you and your daughter to check out:
