I purchased this button polyp as my first coral. Once I got it home I found there was what I believe is a discosoma also. Am I correct with this? And any help with the name would be great. Is there a way I could move it safely or will it be fine to live next to the button polyps.

That is a discosoma and both of those will grow and try to smother the other...
It would be best to re locate the mushroom on its own rock and separate them

You should try growing the "button polyps" on a separate rock away from your main rock work. They are probably palys. Nice color version!

We have 4 different color versions of the palys. Love them.
They are larger than most zoas. But the zoas have some crazy eye popping colors and no palytoxin.

Would the best way to be to break the rock it is on? So the mushroom remains attached to it. This morning the mushroom is taller where I can now see under it.
