Ok T5 lamps are so BORING! no shimmer, looks fake.
My LED rebuild better go quick!
I am debating.. 42" or the full 48" for the new heatsink?

How wide is the tank? You can get away from active cooling with a larger heatsink, if you actively cool now. On my 48" tank, I went with two 20" heatsinks. They were super beefy though, so I didn't need any cooling.

Its 48" tank. My 30" in this thread has DIY PWM temp controlled fans. Rebuild will have 3 fans.
I am only adding 15 more chips to the layout (70 total 350W can't remember if they were all 5w chips LOL) so the chips will be spread a little more through the new heatsink.

What heatsink? You might not need that much (or any) cooling, even at just 42".

More specifically:

Material (assuming aluminum)
Number of fins
Thickness of fins
Thickness of base plate
Length
Height
Width

How is the growth with the DIY light?

It will be the same heatsink I used for my 30" from makersLED
Just haven't decided on 42" or not.

I guess I should mention that this original thread was for over my 46G bowfront.
Now I have a 75G hence the rebuild of a longer fixture.

Growth was slow, but I created that by not including 2 spectrums. (I have to go back and see the Nm I did not include)
The chips I did not include are $5.00 each LOL is why I didn't originally add them.

you know the turtle always wins the race:rolleyes:

Good lord, disinfecting the chiller lines. I NEVER run it during the winter.

For me as you know LEDs are the only way to go.
T5's was the cheapest temporary lighting I could put together :( $65 for the fixture and $83 for the lamps
