Thanks Wendy and I'm pretty happy with my first stab at all this. And yes, I try to keep it light because if we can't have any fun at this, why do it!!!

Where in the tank do you have this pavona? I am having an issue placing mine and would like your input. Thanks!

It's sitting on my sand bed in a medium flow area.

David...just read through your build thread...very nice set up and well written. I'm still at that stage of trying to convince her I haven't totally lost my mind either. I keep reminding her how much she enjoyed this 35 years ago but I don't think her memory is as good as mine...yet!

Thanks Don. She'll come around, just keep her involved. My wife still thinks I'm nuts nearly a year and a half later, and although she may never admit it, she's loves it also. Just this morning she pointed something out I hadn't noticed. It's been a nice distraction to the whole empty nest thing!!!

David, you mentioned in another thread that you mounted your gyre in your overflow, I've been considering this also, any pictures of this? Are the magnets submerged or did you isolate them somehow?

Thanks

Here's a picture, albeit from my phone, so not very good. The magnets are submerged. Thus far it's worked perfectly. It's a x150 so I really can't go beyond 50-60 percent without moving a lot of sand - at the bottom of the opposite end!

Happy to send additional pictures if you'd like.

Just what you described, any worries about the magnet case leaking and metals getting into your water or does the gyre use ceramic magnets? Guess it's technically the same as the magnets on the pump side?

I actually called Coralvue to ask them if it was safe for the backside magnet to be submerged and was assured it is. Honestly I have no idea what the material is, but it is sealed. And I too would assume the wet side magnet is the same material and it's obviously safe. But then again, we all know what happens when we assume something.
Lastly, and not that it means anything, but I have read other people mounting them in their overflow as well. It's my intention to remove it somewhat regularily to inspect the magnet(s).

Sounds like you did your homework, count me in to the submerged magnet club! How thick is your overflow acrylic by the way?

I took a video capture for another member to provide an example of a Foscam webcam. Since this build thread is so overdo for an update, I figured I would post it here also, as sort of a mini-update! Please ignore the glares from surrounding windows and the TV image in the background...lol.

Still need to do a complete update, but honestly I haven't really taken the time to get the DSLR out and get serious about getting some shots. I did take this one yesterday and it isn't bad. More to come...hopefully sooner rather than later...lol.
