The Yellow Eye Kole Tang is definitely a terrific fish for our reef tanks!

I have gone on record in many posts stating that they are one of the best fish we can employ to help keep nuisance algae issues in control. I have always kept a Kole Tang in every one of my reef set ups; other than my nano. Not only do they scrape for algae, they are a detrivore and consume the wastes of other fish; in which they often do their business in the same spot on your reef.

They are strikingly beautiful when they become established and feel comfortable in our tanks. There's more than just a yellow eye on a dark body; there's oranges, reds and blues. Incredible colors!

And as far as aggression goes, they are very social and well-behaved. When ever I have introduced more herbivorous fish, the Kole Tang will dance with the newcomers for a little while; at most a day. And after that, the tang has no issues with them anymore. My Kole Tang will actually patrol my tank with my other tang, a foxface and a rabbitfish looking for any algae to eat.

Kole Tangs are a great choice for a community reef tank!

I had a Kole for about 5 years, awesome fish, however after losing it I bought a chevron and it is equally as good (same genera) aquarium inhabitant, although quite a bit more expensive. I think the bristletooths in general are underrated, and would choose a member of this genera before any other.

Agreed. Mine lost it's vibrant color within a year. I feed my fish several times a day so they grow fast in my system.

True the adults don't have the gaudy colors of the juveniles, but they are still quite nice looking and tend to be model citizens and good hard workers. Under good lighting the purples, blues, and even some orange in the body and caudal fin show through.
Most of the bristletooths undergo some color change kole probably the least and chevrons the most. Tomini tend to actually look nicer as adults...

Honestly I like the handsome black adult chevron as much as the juvenile. The teenage stage between not so much though
