My star polyps

So I have this one for a week and a day. And every day it started opening more and more. But now every day it stays closed. Is this something I should worry about? And can someone fully id it for me too? Thanks

How old is the tank?

No2 nitrite and 4 months

Ya no2 is going to be an issue.
Either there is added amonia from feeding or the bacteria population is too small yet

What test kit are you using

Well if the kit is showing no2 then I would try a different kit.
No2 is toxic

Ok so water change?

Unfortunately doing a water change may not help them.
The denitifying bacteria are hard at work converting that no2 into no3.
Changing water now may interrupt the balance of that necessary bacteria.

So what should I do?

Wait for the no2 to be converted to no3
The GSP's as much as I dont like saying this may very well perish.
I would look into the salifert or red sea kits for better results of testing.

Give it time and keep a close eye on all of your parameters. Everything with this hobby takes time.:-) patience and water parameters are key.

Some of the star polyps in my 120 gallon reef tank with 200 pounds of live rock. They are about a year and a half old. When I first got them they were closed for a couple of weeks. If you keep good parameters and give it time they will open up.
