It would be nice to have a spot to journal my tank, and what's going on with it for when I need help on stuffs.
As of today (11/5/25), it's a 75 gallon Aqueon tank with an unknown amount of live rock (lots). Lights are PopBloom (knock-off lights) S16, 60W LED. While they are definitely not a big brand name, they work fantastically, and have kept the BTA alive for a year and a half or so, and my corals seem to be quite happy. I've got a canister filter and a HOB that was out there in an emergency and I just never took it off. Running a VEVOR gyre, which can do over 2000 gph. Flow seems to be great for the fish and corals.
Currently, it houses quite the menagerie of fish.
- 3 ocellaris clownfish (trio has been together for 1.5 years)
- 8 damsels (3 Talbot's, 2 regal, 2 ternate, 1 azure)
- 1 coral beauty
- 1 royal gramma
- 1 Valentini puffer
- 1 dusky wrasse - Tiffany
- 1 Tomini tang
- 1 fine spotted fairy wrasse
- 2 six-line wrasse - Bonnie and Clyde (mated pair, apparently. Been together for over 1.5 years)
- 1 canarytop wrasse - Banana Man
- 1 goldenhead sleeper goby - Clark
- 1 bristletail filefish (Also known as the Petco aiptasia eating filefish)
- 1 Copper Banded Butterfly - Mariposa
- 1 Wheelers Goby
- 1 Citron Clown Goby
Invertebrates (not including corals or unintentional inhabitants) are a little more scarce.
- 1 BTA (currently hosting clowns)
- 1 long spine urchin
- 1 Tuxedo urchin
- Some amount of hermits. They are primarily there for the Valentini Puffer to chew on. Relatively cheap dental care, since he mostly eats the frozen/prepared foods.
- 3 big ol' turbo snails
- 1 tiger pistol shrimp
- some amount of astrea, dwarf cerith, bumblebee and margarita snails
- 3 tiger sand conchs
- 1 serpent star - Jeremy
Corals (still all frags, but they're growing slowly)
- 3 gonipora frags
- 3 hammers
- 1 dragon soul favia (turning green
)
- some GSP that hasn't gotten out of hand
- 2 mushrooms
- 1 Cabbage leather
Tank is inderterminately old. I bought it from an older gentleman who couldn't keep up with it. This was in May/June of 2024. It was a 55 gallon, though the center brace cracked, the glass bowed, and I wanted to sleep at night. My wife gave the thumbs up for an upgrade, so I didn't complain.
I don't quarantine new arrivals, and just go for it. I do have ich in the system, but the fish keep up with it. In fact, I haven't had any deaths that seem to be a result of the ich. I recently found my first aiptasia, which was properly dealt with and some bubble algae.
I have a few patches of coralline algae that are steadily growing. Bristleworms abound, which I am evidently allergic to. Parameters stay stable, except phosphates, which I'm still trying to lower from a ridiculously high amount (topped out the low range Hanna checker). It's just keeping up on the GFO that's killing me. ADHD, am I right?
Eventually, I plan to move out of my parents' basement. When I do, I plan to transplant everything into a larger acrylic tank (gotta drill for sump), though, because of the uncertainty of when/if finances get good enough for a house, I tried to keep fish that will do okay in 75 gallons.
