What type of urchin? Prime/ammonia detoxifier, do a water change, and carbon isn’t a bad idea. What are ammonia levels?

Ime they decompose quickly. That would produce some ammonia and hydrogen sulphide. Those are not good. Just make sure you remove the dead urchin and prepare for a slight rise in nitrate.

Removed urchin and did a 30% water change and changed carbon. Haven't tested for ammonia in years.

FWIW, a 30% water change isn't as useful as something to deal with ammonia.
