I don’t know how many reefers keep an urchin in their tank, but I’m guessing quite a few. We have this little fellow. I thought he was super cool in the beginning. And don’t get me wrong, he’s a great member of the CUC, but he’s such a jerk! I cuss him out at least once a day. Every morning I check to see what coral frag he’s picked up and where it has ended up. He’s either carrying it around and I have to pry it away from him (as gently as possible) and/or I have frags scattered throughout the tank, turned upside down. I can’t even find my Monti frag. I think it’s in the back of the tank where I just can’t see it. I ended up moving all my frags back to the frag rack (which is very crowded now) but even that isn’t a safe place. He gets those too! He knocks over my larger corals too. Brain coral and hammer have been dumped into the sand more than once. And poor snails! I have found him carrying one of those around too. Poor dude died. I am threatening to take him to the lfs! I’ve about had it with him! I know if he’s carrying things around he’s happy and just doing sea urchin things, but man is it frustrating!

I just had to get this off my chest. It’s been bugging me for months. I feel slightly better now.

Gotta glue stuff down very securely with urchins. I move my blue tuxedo between my sump and main display as he decimates my coraline population.

Lots of Super glue comes in handy with a urchin

Yeah I have glued my hammer and goniopora down but none of the frags or the brain coral. Mostly because I don’t know where to put them yet, so I was placing them and then seeing if they are happy where I put them before gluing. But this urchin is a bull in a china shop and making that very difficult. But I’m glad I’m not alone!

Dont blame urchins, they naturally move things around bc the best algae fir thrm to eat is under unmount unsecured things.

Glue everything down or sell the urchin
