My first idea was Bryopsis. It's definitely not though.
Was able to remove the whole 1/2 inch tuft with some pliers. Very dense and strong so it doesn't rip easily.
Fairly slow growing. And of course avoided by all of my algae eaters. No surprise there when even I had trouble to rip it off.
Some kind of caulerpa? Bubble algae species with weird growth pattern?
